What temperatures should you be looking not to exceed on your cpu. I ask because (after a bit of bad news this morning) i felt a bit reckless and took it out on my pc.
Once i overclocked it (e6600 2.4) to just over 3.2 my temps were sitting at 37, now i have it at 3.375 and at idle they are at 41. Looking through the temp logs, the highest i hit was 59. I havent really run anything to put it through its paces. Can someone reccomend what to run so i can keep an eye on the temps while im doing so.

Hi,

Good and cool temperatures for the CPU are on the high 30s. Decent/Good are on the 40s. Acceptable but not good 50's. Anything above that I worry.

This is me, and on idle. I tend to consider that in stress the PC can gain 10 deg depending on the work.

The main issue is CPU life expectancy as I believe the thermal throttling would come at higher temps.

The 8800s are running at a whopping 80deg.

The Asus program will monitor and send alarms (if ou have an Asus motherboard) but I have heard many people saying it is not very reliable... which I found strange. But probably someone else can help.

that was true yesterday. current CPUs are designed to work upto 70 and higher degrees:

http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLACR (71C)
or even better: 85C - http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLACU

still the normal dual cores are supossed to work on max 65C.

Thank Vincent. Well it seems I was not far off as we are discussing dual cores, but it is good to know.

According to Speed Fan My CPU is 42c, Core 1 is 47c and Core 0 is 51c. with my CPU running pretty idle. Which of these figures does Intels thermal specification actually apply to?

All... despite having two cores it is one single CPU.

Well thats put my mind at ease Vincent thanks. I am delighted to get nearly a 1ghz increase on my cpu with just air cooling, i am starting to get addicted to this modding lark. I wouldnt even have considered it six months ago.

The need for speed....waiting for better air cooling before pushing the heck out of mine, your right the rush of it is crazy......I personally love the dreaded failed posts followed by the bleeps Very Happy

I use intel thermal analysis tool but I think its only for intel boards. It stresses the hell out of your ram and processor and give temp readings at the same time.

Everest is another good monitoring tool, but the free edition cannot give temps for dual cores. The program is only cheap and has lots of other features.

For quick benchmarks is Superpi, worth having. pi to 32 million places.... Shocked
