Ah it's that time again for me to be rich and lazy and let other people do the work for me:) just kidding but i do need some help tho.
When my Vadim goes back for its upgrades i will be jumping on the DDR3 band wagon and i will be aiming for 8gb ram, now without sounding nasty i dont need any help with the 8gb choice that already made up what i do need help with is what are the negative effects if any of having 8gb ram.
Like will having 8gb drop the timings so much that they would be as usless as dental floss for a bungie rope and any other things along that line.
ive been searching quite alot for answers to that question and i cant really find an answer so i thought why not ask the guys...no not the A Team the Vadim dudes:)
I would say havong 8gb of RAM will probably limit the overclokcing ptoential of your system. Though as i ahev never used DDR3 i am not 100% sure.
As for CPU, i would stick with the QX9650. All the reviews i have read shows the it overclocks to around the same as the QX9770 so there would be very little point upgrading.
Also, the review did not deal with 8GB. So this is what I mean above about MB's.
MB's still like using only two slots over using four. Using all four can create bottle-necking.
I have overclocked DDR3 using two slots and four and always came up with better results using only two when overclocking.
many thanks RH i have not read through it all yet but im just happy with something to read that might help:)
I think i should make this a little more clear aswell 8gb would really help for the amount of video editing i do thats one of the main reason for the 8gb but i dont have to have it the only reason i would go for 8gb is if i knew there would be no drawbacks but the more and more i search i find 8gb to a pain in the backside.
And now that set of ram is looking more appealing to me as its 4gb which is nice and its only 2 slots because ive heard of that 4 slot bottle neck before but in my days of pre vadim self building i never got to push the ram to a point were it would make a difference.
Just really wanna cover all the bases really as this upgrade will be my true Vadim, i know that sounds weird considering my already high end setup but im trying to shoot for an over top more money than sense spec so i can go for a long period of time without upgrades:)
Thanks once again for the help now i must be getting back to Tenchi in Tokyo:)
For video editing you should be fine using all four slots as long as you don't try to over-clock the memory radically.
Meaning you would need to loosen the timings if you did try to overclock them.
IF I would use all four slots I would leave memory setup in auto and run the system like that.
I would over clock the CPU.
But as I enjoy the challenge to find the sweet spot, I would be in and out of the bios many times.
Patience is a golden viture when over-clocking.
No two pc's even with the exact components will over-clock exactly the same, close but never exactly the same.
Overclocking is an art, especially when you seek stability and not just the results for benchmarkings or 3dmarks.
So if you like to be under the hood, go for it and have fun.
