Hi, my mate told me about a thing called "bit torrent" and how wonder full it all is. I never ever even used it before but it sounded interesting.

I downloaded bit torrent, and trying to download a file, but what comes accross first is the download ETA:::10 HOURS...Shocked

can someone explain do you just leave torrent download alone? or do you need to do stuff to make ti faster? ie add stuff ect( i allready made sure my firewalls ect not blocking).

still 10 hours to download a game.. isnt tht a big long or normal?

Bittorrent works on a peer to peer technology which is self reliant on the number of seeders. The more 'seeders' (people with the file) the more connections the bittorent client can get and the faster the download will be.

A lot of ISP's packet shape bittorent traffic meaning they cap the maximum speed you can download torrents at. The one rule about torrent downloading is that you will never get a consistent speed, it is all dependant on the seed connections.

ok so basicaly, i want a HIGH number of seeds when i try download a torrent, out of interest, should you leave a torrent running non stop?? or pause it every now and then?

or anythign else to help it download better?

p.s is this good:
seeds 11:15 (13 in swarm)

peers 23:70(31 in swarm)

download speeds:avg 127.4 kB/s......

Yes the more seeds the better the connection is likely to be however due to the nature of peer 2 peer technology there are many many factors within the connection topology of each 'peer' that can cause issues when connecting.

Basically even with 10000 seeds your not guartineed a fast connection its also about the quality of each seeder, if they have a firewall or bandwidth limiting isp's etc. But as a rule of thumb more seeds = better speed

Yes your connection looks fine you can google up your client and see if there are any tips/hints on speeding it up but i wouldnt bother because its unlikely to yield any real speed bonus.

You could try encrypting it - some clients has an option to encrypt which sometimes speed up things if your ISP is shaping traffic.

just wondering, im using "bittorrent" as my main torrent downloader, was wondering is this the best one, i heard of utorrent, just wondering does it matter which client you use? or doesnt it matter what one you use?
lol 199kB/s avg speed..Sad

i thought torrent download supposed to be better than direct download.. i hope download speeds pick up, hopefuly it wont just stick at the low speed of 90kB/s atm which i got:(

No torrent isnt supposed to be faster than http downloads, it can be but its generally slow. Also no the torrent client dosent make much difference at all just user preference

cheers for help, last thing, i am right in saying if lets say i surf the web and a torrent download happerning it will slow down the torrent download right, as the same would happen if i was playing a online game and torrent downloading, it would slow both down right?

just checking, sinse if i got torrent download on, i better make sure i not using internet for any others uses. ect.or be 22 hours instead of 12....

Using the internet to surf web pages while torrenting is fine but playing a game or trying to download http stuff will make your internet crawl!

just wondering soemone said have encryption active, sisne my download begun can you still do this without messing up the file you trying to download??

also does encryption do any bad things? sisne i would of thought everyone would have it on if it helps speed things up, how come many dont?\
