I'm shortly expecting to pick up my newly upgraded PC from the boys at Vadim. Great timing as my wife has decided to go to South Africa for a week.
As I have replaced quite a few parts from my old rig, I've decided to take the plunge and try building my first PC from the ground up using the old parts. As a first timer, i'll be going for air cooling initially witha view to graduating to water cooling sometime in the near future. Here is a list of what I will inherit from the old rig. Any advice on additional parts which I intend to buy (from Vadim obviously) will be greatly appreciated.
Parts inherited are in bold. Additional parts which I need advice on will be left blank:
Regarding the watercooling; do you really think a first timer can attempt it???
hmmm... how good are you with workshop stuff? ... bu you're probably right...
have some fun spreading thermal paste on the CPU and getting it all with air... having a feel for the fans and other stuff... and then do the same but with a few tubes in the middle.
Also it will be interesting to move around in the bios, and creating partitions, etc... and getting to really know and design your PC.. and then start from scratch...
I am sure you will have quite a few moments of frustration and of joy in the process.
I don't mind getting my hands dirty. Ill see how I get on with the thermal paste and the fans. I'm a bit apprehensive about the BIOS settings as I know that these can grill perfectly good components to a crisp if one doesn't know what they are doing
But I think you're right about the rollercoaster ride of frustrations and joy!!
Stez, I think Vincent just answered the query about RAID cards.
Eu, I dont really have a budget in mind but as this is my first build I probably don't want to go too crazy. Also, I'm just waiting on delivery of my newly upgraded rig which will be hard to beat. Having said that, it would be a shame to waste all those good components by buying something that won't keep up.
Vincent, thanks for the info. Keep your fingers crossed that I manage to build the rig without frying it.
patchworkbaboon you be fine with building your PC and as Eu said you can always ask for help on any problems I must admit have tried a water build myself yet.
