Evening everyone hope Ur all having a good Easter I have a reoccurring problem !! THE SQUEAK IS BACK!!!!!!!! AND NOT AMOUSE IN SIGHT NO my machine again if u remember i mentioned the squeak tick type of noise before . It has gotten worse its a lot louder now and it is a constant SQUEAK . iv followed it to the PSU. I mentioned this to Adrian who said ''one of the wires/cables might of come loose during transit and to remove side panel of my PC , block the PSU with a long hard bit of plastic (being careful not to loose the plastic inside the PSU ) then start the PC with the plastic in the PSU fan to block the fans from spinning . If I'm still hearing the Squeak to stop the PC remove plastic that i used to stop the fan and if i don't hear the squeak use a flat head screwdriver to push the cable I'm seeing back through the PSU fan grill ! '' I was about to do as he suggested but the SQUEAK suddenly stopped !! (pheeew ) wasn't to happy about shoving anything in PSU ! so i restarted booted back into Vista 64bit and IT WAS BACK !! a lot louder to . so i restarted again but this time i booted into XP i waited for the SQUEAK but nothing ....silence !!! so i tried VISTA again. the SQUEAK appeared straight away, i did this several times the SQUEAK ONLY APPEARS IN VISTA !!??? it never happens if i use XP !?? what could be causing this VERY VERY annoying noise ? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP . it is definitely coming from the PC and it does seem to be coming from the PSU area !? but it could be anywhere (i hear it while I'm sleeping ) any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated a slightly CRRAZZY CLOCKER1 !!!! Clocker1 if I was forced to say what it was witha gun poiting at my head, I would have to put my life on it and say it's your graphic card/cards.
I have been reading and asking about this since you mentioned it, and the graphic card always comes up as the culprit. Can you borrow or have you a spare card to replace the one in your PC and if no noise I was right, still a noise, I get shot. If u have 2 cards ( forgot ) take one out and try it with one and swap if still a squeak. I had a bit of plastic in the fan of my card ages ago which was the culprit. Try taking the card out and examining it. Anyway, gives you something to think about. Please keep us informed
THANKYOU for your Help And about the HD first :Yes i have 2 OS on one drive . and you mentioned the graphics card i have a Watercooled 8800GTS 512Mb and as it happens I'm thinking of upgrading to the 9800GX2 and adding a new HD also so i will be sending my machine back to Vadim for that as im new to watercooling etc... So i asked Adrian if he could try and sort out the squeak noise while my Machine is with him and he was more than happy to try and fix it ( I REALLY HOPE HE DOES !! But I'm not sure if i should get the 9800GX2 ( some reviews don't look that great) I was thinking of waiting for the GT200 ?? PS Thanks Fruim for all your research etc its really kind of you I will give you a rate THANKS AGAIN TO ALL OF YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP
Thanks for the rate clocker1! When/if Adrian finds the squeak cause, it really would clear my mind to know what it was, please dont forget to let us all know what it was Ta
THE SQUEAK CULPRIT HAS BEEN FOUND !!!!!! Adrian ( the Master ) has found what it was !!!!!!!!!!!!!! you may remember i sent my machine back for a couple of upgrades , after that was done Adrian went about trying to find the source of the squeak . After 20 hours of additional stress testing he sent a message saying " I've managed to locate the squeaky sound it is a capacitor from the mobo and is squeaking because of the overclocking. I\'ll replace the mobo in the next couple hours and i\'ll stress the system again. That means if everything is OK after 24H of stress testing, I\'ll dispatch the system tomorrow (Friday 16.05.2008) for Saturday delivery. " WHOOOO !!! I wouldn't of even thought that it could of been a capacitor on the mobo !! This again shows the level of service these guys ALL provide . I don't think i can say anything people don't already know about Vadims incredible Quality/ Service / Support and overall friendliness and willingness to help . Ive said this before i think , I'm still very new to PC building Ive never built my own system , i have installed a lot of hardware over the years ie: Ram / graphics cards etc and i grasp the general workings of a PC but not to the level where I'm comfortable fixing components and playing with watercooling etc , I'm still very much a Noob !! ( i hate that word ) But Adrian has always explained anything i ask . In some cases the questions I've asked are silly things i should know but Adrian has never minded ! he is always more than happy to help . I wish more companies would take note of how Vadim works and operates and how they treat their customers !! They could learn an awful lot from vadim . Simply put , they are Vadim , nothing else needs to be said (Ps : Many Many thanks to all the forum users that helped me with this issue , i have never been on such a great forum as this Thankyou guys
you are using the x38 chipset. I thought that these were solid capacitors less prone to blowing, but I suppose that nothing is 100% in life only death and taxes
I'm really pleased to hear your squeak has been found. Although I'm amazed it was a capacitor on the MOBO. Let's face it - who other than a professional would of found that. Not one person here or anywhere else would have guessed that!
Top job Vadim - now off to find Adrian's name and give that man a rate. (I know it's his job - but when people deliver results like that, you can't rate them enough)
Glad your problems are fixed! It just goes to show that if something can go wrong in a computer system, it eventually will... and that the customer service responsible for fixing it is more important than whether it goes wrong or not.
And Rob's right, I don't think any of us would ever have guessed that, at least not before you'd rebuilt your whole system on the same MB. Well done Vadim!
