Managed to get a good deal on some used kit and decided to leap at the chance.
OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC 6400 CAS 4 PLATINUM XTC SERIES
Intel Core2™ Quad Q6600 (G0)
Asus P5N-T Deluxe
All for just over £200.. anyway. I have a watercooled CPU already and was toying with the idea of increasing it to either the graphics card (8800 GTS 640Mb) or the new mobo...
What sized rad are you pumping it all into, or are you going to upgrade the rad when you decide which component to cool? If you just have a double rad then I would do the motherboard.
If it were a perfect world I would try and do both. Cooling the northbridge and the southbridge of the mobo should help you increase the overclock of your Q6600. However the greatest performance increase will come from cooling and oc'ing via a bios flash the graphics card.
I would just add the motherboard to the loop as well then, because the heat generated by both an overclocked quad core CPU as well as a GTS will restrict your overclocking performance on both components.
Having just done some research it would seem watercooling the P5N-T isn't the best idea in the world. Apparently they are really temprmental and can get damaged simply be removing the heatsinks. I'm sure it is possible to watercool this motherboard without any problems, and hey, if it does break then you have a genuine excuse for a 790i or a Maximus Formula.
If you do cool the motherboard just be very careful.
thanks for the insight... I got this one quite cheap (just over £70) but would hate to destroy it... wife would be might upset ... its a shame the nVidia motehrboards are getting out so bad...
Thanks again.. I will have to take that into consideration now. ... might get myself a second rad (externally fitted) and go for the graphics watercooling... the problem is that it is going to be much more expensive...
Maximus formula would have to be as DDR2 is easy and cheap DDR3 not... specially not on my current budget...
