OK people I know how all you experienced guys h8 n00bs, but please help me out a little?
I want to water-cool my rig specs bellow, firstly is tracking down the blocks that are compitable with a XFX 780i mobo, found some EK and Koolance ones but not somewhere that actually has them in stock at the mo.
Ok the main noobish question I wanted to ask was about sizes! I searched the forum a bit and couldn't find much. What confuses me as a n00b is the thread and tube sizes! I have come across 1/4", 1/2", 3/8" 10mm, 8mm, inner/outer diameter etc. etc.
So far I understand that 1/4" and 1/2" are thread sizes but have no idea what tube sizes these would be compatible with?
What would be great is if someone could explain each size or at least point me to a guide or post that explains all this, because i'm sure this question has been asked a million times.
Welcome Maximus08!
noone hates anyone here to start with, just Mondays are a bit slower
Anyway, i dont have any links to point you at the moment into the right direction, probably we need to write a watercooling guide for our components, so they become easier to understand what needs to be purchased. For now, if you go for 1/2" tubing, that means is 1/2" ID (Inner Diameter) that is about 12.7mm. therefore you will need the appropriate fittings for that which is also 1/2": http://www.vadim.co.uk/product8569/Nickel+hose+connectors+1-s_4-q_+thread+to+1-s_2-q_+ID
its just with all these measurments I was getting a bit confused and sometimes I think some sites are using inches and mm randomly and not in standard way. For instance by 1/2" tubing and then you need 12.7mmID fittings, and some n00bs like me are just like eer is 12.7mm equal to 1/2"?!?!?
Maybe there should be more of a standard measure for us n00bs and people of lower IQ so that we can more easily understand and set a watercooled rig up?
Thanks again, look forward to any guides on this in the future. But for now I will stick with 1/4" thread to 1/2"ID tubing.
If you ever go into the energy industry, it is a bloody nightmare! Everyone uses different standards interchangeably, and some make their own units up!
