OK got this baby two days ago all the way from America, it came in a small box but has a hefty weight to it, for what it is.
connecting and recognition was quick and painless, but the power button is on the back and that fact wouldn't be a problem but when you disconnect the drive it doesn't power down automatically and the drive just keeps spinning (maybe something to do with WD-Raptors) And, yes I have put a WD-Raptor-X in this and I know I'm losing alot of SPEED...but hey it looks really nice...
Above is a size comparison between my MiniMac and the blacX
I'd better make sure I've got headphones on when copying to the Raptor I already had a discussion with Fruim who was stating that his Raptors don't make alot of noise, at the time I had no sides on my Vadim so now I agree: with sides they're much quieter.......but a Raptor for an external drive is very noisy......sort of sounds like a old SCSI server drive...if that helps.
It might look nice but the performance has alot to be desired,
Stez said that the speed of USB 2 was slow but not this slow......WTF
I used HD tach 3.0.4.0 (long bench 32mb zones)
Also this comes with a US plug so you'll have to replace the 12v/2a power adapter ...most or any external item uses this .....I used a old one that was for a WD Mybook.
USB put some work on the CPU to transfer data. So from that, I'd have thought transferring at full whack would have utilised some CPU time, but your HDTach benchmark shows its 0%.
