OK this is my first foray into OC'ing my system. albeit using the AI overclock on my motherboard, this is set on 10% overclock. i wouldnt mind some pointers as to where to go from here, are those temps ok or a little on the high side, only on aircooling so i realise im limited to how far i can go. the temps are steady 57 with orthos running, and drop back to 37/40 respectivley on idle.

Ive read up on overclocking however my mind doesnt seem to keep hold of the info Razz, do you think i should lower the multiplier, or maybe up the memory and cpu voltage ?. any pointers would be cool, i really want to get to grips with this only way to get rid of the fear Razz.

Here is mine. I only have aircooling also and i got mine my raising just the fsb. I dont think you are able to change your multiplier that is only available on Extreme chips.

I have the striker extreme mb, will go take another look see what the multiplier options are if any. and have a gander at the fsb. i read your post from you first foray into oc'ing , i guess you used the same approach using the AI overclock, but you set you fsb manually, did you just leave the Ai to take care of the rest ? are those temps of yours under load, because they are damn good compared to mine .

I did use the AI first i upped it to the maximum (15%) then upped the fsb manually. When i said extreme i meant intel extreme cpu's, they are the only chips with unlocked multipliers. Mine and yours are both locked.
My temps are at idle, under load it hits a little over 60.

Ok it really didnt like the idea of a 15% oc attempt windows loaded all sorts of program errors, then decide not to boot even after changing bios back, eventually did thank god "phew". any reason as to why setting AI oc to 15% without changing anything else would have caused such a big problem ? or is it that i didnt change anything else to match thats the problem.

Watercooling is obviously going to give you more headroom to try things out, but as you may have noticed im not too clued up on overclocking, this is my first real attempt, so any advice i could give would be, erm whats the word NOOBISH Razz. but it is kind of addictive.

I dont understand why it wouldnt work. The AI overclocks everything. Maybe you are just a little unlucky with your board. We all know about the overheating problems of the striker.

I would try it manually, just keep upping the fsb a little bit at a time.

True i heard about all the heating probs with the board after i got one , sod's law i guess. i might have another go but manual oc kinda creeps me out a bit at the mo so may option in the bios. will go in at 10% again and take a look from there. i may or may not be back Razz.

I bet the problem lies with your current voltage supplied to the ram. Depends on which version you have, so just check, but you have a least 2.0-2.1 volts going to these modules.

With x10 multiplier and the fsb is 293 then you ram is still underclocked, if you went for 320 fsb with 4/5 ratio then ram is sitting at 800mhz . This is with Host Bus Frequency at 320mhz Reference Frequency 226 MHz Memory Frequency 667 MHz

p.s this is with an Intel board I get these options, not so sure with Asus but I think you get a choice of a ratio. If that doesn't want to boot then try 5/6 ratio at 320.

At 293 try 5/6 or 4/5 ratio as well
