Well....sort of....
my hamsters have just had babies and I'm panicking, I can't even google straight! most hamster breeders are useless and prophets of doom and keep saying things like 'inexperienced owners shouldn't allow their hamsters to mate'
...I thought the hamsters were both male...and gay...clearly I was wrong!
Does anyone have first/second/third hand about raising these little puppies? they're quite disgusting right now but I'd imagine they'll get cute in about 2 weeks!!!

In my lifetime I have probably owned over two hundred of these furry friends (most little pink babies). Best thing to do is make sure they get peace and quiet and fresh food and water. Dont worry too much about changing the sawdust/bedding for a couple of days at least, and most importantly dont be tempted to hold the babies just yet as your smell on them will cause them to be rejected.
What kind of hamsters do you own? And what are there names? Joe and James @ gay hamsters
i beleive you need to separate them from their mum and dad after a certain time. Unfortuently i cant remember when. Ill have a look if i can find anything to help you. Also they will keep breeding if you dont seperate them.
they're Syrian hamsters, one's called Ibanez, the other, Cheesy
The babies are called 'Squeaks' because they've just found their voices
*Edit - They're actually Roborvoski Drawf hamsters and ever so slightly different, these are ones that are ok to be in the cage together before babies are involved, I was starting to think I was a bad mum!!! still waiting for my chum to get to me with that cage, starting to think I should phone the vet!

I've got nothing to put the male into.....any suggestions? not to mention, as previously stated, I thought they were both male and they're both snuggling with the pups (awww cute/omw they're about to feast on them)
suffice to say
I don't know which one I'm meant to be taking out

I had a few of these, vicious little buggers Did you know that you can turn them pure white? You have to block out all there light (although I cant remember how long for)

A bit odd...and some would say cruel why not buy white lab rats and save yourself a friendly visit from the RSPCA?
I'm not sure I would rely on the fact that the one that bit the pen is the mother BUT if they're old enough to breed telling the male from the female will be pretty easy. Pick them up by the skruff of the neck (it won't harm them at all) and hold them vertically with their underside facing you, you should then be able to tell the male pretty easily as gravity will force his testicles to show fairly obviously.
As for finding something to put the male into, anything will do for now that he can't chew his way out of and as long as you exercise him that'll be fine untill the babies open their eyes.
I used to work in a pet shop but it was quite a long time ago now and I can't remember exaclty when they become sexually mature or even when you'll need to seperate the young but iirc any pet shop will buy them from you from about 3 weeks on so reckon this is when they should be seperated too.
