ARGH I'm so CENSORED pissed off right now, I decided to install Vista Service Pack 1 today as I'd been putting it off for ages until things settled. Well now my pc blue screens on bootup cant get into the pc at all.

Tried with safe mode and it just takes me the SP1 installation screen "Installing Service Pacl: Stage 3 or 3 - 48% complete. Do not turn off your computer."

It goes up to 58% then the computer blue screens, so right now I've got no damn way into the pc. I have the majority of my stuff backed up but not every single little thing which is extremely annoying.

I put in my Vista 64bit DVD on bootup and expected a "recover & repair" console on the dvd but instead all I got was "install windows vista 64bit" window...

And as this is a SP1 issues and unlikely to be a hardware issue my warranty dosent even cover it. Anyone got any ideas Sad

Update:

I went back into safe mode again to see if I can get past the 58% installing mark on SP1, It reached 73% complete then blue screened again! ARGH

Hi, try clearing your cmos to see if that changes anything....

Next link for an recovery 64 disc Here Very Happy

I have just been reading about this problem and there is a Microsoft checklist, so if you could restore then try looking at the recommended pre-sp1 installs.

Hope this helps in some way Razz

Ok great I just tried to go into safe mode 3 times to keep progressing in the install and I now get a blue screen every freaking time with this error:

*** stop: 0x0000007e (0xffffffffc0000005, 0xfffff80002466ab4, 0xfffffa60019cce88, 0xfffffa60019b0860)

Thank you lokhup for the advice and the link mate, appreciate your help. I have just tried safe mode one more time and got into it without BSOD, this time it started installing from 70% and has reached up to 84% before crashing yet again!

I'm going to keep trying until I get to 100% and then if that dosent work I will reset cmos and try the recovery cd you gave me the link to.

P.S I have every single update there was before SP1 so I have all of the 'check list'. It actually does a self check to make sure you have all the required updates before it offers you the download.

I had NO problems on Vista 64bit until I installed SP1... so you can take from that what you want.

Update:

Well i'm on my like 50th attempt in safe mode, installation started at 71% and has gone up to 87% before crashing *yet* again arrrrrggghh I want to kill something (something microsoft related)

Sad I really hate computers sometimes... no freaking logical reason to SP1 failing. As I said Vista 64bit has been working like a dream since I got it... no problems at all but even then I knew I'd best leave SP1 for a few months until it matured but no I should have left it all together. Sad stupid me

I just hope to god if this installation does reach 100% on safe mode that it means that the pc will actually work Sad or at least let me into safe mode to do a restore

Sorry to hear about your probs dude!!!

Re SP1, from a personal point of view, i installed, had no problems and have not had a blue screen since!! SO you pays your money and you takes your choice. However i tell you what, people say Vista 64 is slow and bloated....but with 8gb of fast ram and a q6600 its a joy to use!!!

the only suggestion from reading the Microsoft pages is that the problem could be with your network adapter driver, uninstalling or just disabling this might help.....
