While some people like to socialize on there Friday nights, the nerdy geeks...well just like to be geeks..
A friend at work kept on asking me to fix his pc, I finally gave up and said ok bring it around.
I had to spend all night trying to get this thing to boot, not an easy job when dealing with an hp pavilion 463...
First a picture of what your heatsink should not look like
...lovely
first I though it was a heat problem due to the pc looking like....well horrible, and one hard drive was just dangling in mid air????? not enclosed in the caddy.
So I set to work in cleaning and fitting the drive back in place with a few new cables here and there.
The problem being a constant re-boot when it entered the xp loading screen....worked my magic with the recovery console to find the issue being an unmountable boot sector, great ran checkdisc which stopped at 75% saying this drive is a mess
Needless to say at 2.30 in the morning I needed sleep after working all day and all.......the solution came to in the morning and decided to hook the drive up to my pc.....Virus scan Kaspersky found lots of Backdoors, trojens and the likes ...after another disc error check, fitted it back and bingo....problem solved.
The moral of this story.....who needs enemy's when you have friends who treat their pc's as just a box
