im sure some of you have seen this before or read about it but i figured i would throw this link in, I have never heard about this before its just insane. messy if you need to get in there and add or remove stuff but lol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOgptvjwng8
Pretty cool to look at but I think the novelty will wear off pretty quickly. I'll stick with a standard design any day, especially as I move around a lot and that would be a nightmare!!! lol
I just thought to myself it would be fun to build some of my old components in to this sort of thing, equip it with small TFT and have it in the living room with a looped picture of fish. A goldfish bowl for the 21st century as it were.
So this is the style of aqaurium I would use:
And I would use mineral oil something like this:
2 reasons for this,
1. as hi quality shimano mineral oil I think it would be even more effective for cooling.
2. how much cooler will the clear red oil look!
(one draw back thou is that to fill said aquarium with this would cost over £500 quid.)
I'm going to keep searching for a coloured oil that is cheaper.
Really fancy doing this project, show a bit of support and I'll get on it and upload some progress pics!
I like the idea of the modern goldfish bowl in the living room got plenty of spare parts lying around . coloured oil would also reduce temps by at least 10 degs . if you find cheaper oil why not just add natural food dye could have loads of colour choices then .
At first glance I hoped it would be something more like this!
Hmmm isn't that just a waterproof tower in a fish tank?
Still pretty cool thou.
For me the appeal is in the irony of using technology to solve a problem that doesn't really exist, I think: electronic fish tank, much less work than real fish plus no funerals when they die (I'm sensitive give me a break) but in reality it's much more hassle and more expensive. I don't need most of the technology I use, I use it because I love technology.
I'm definately building my electronic fish tank as soon as I can find some where to get cheap mineral oil, doesn't seem to be a big seller in this country.

I thought of this but I'm thinking that due to the viscosity of the oil they wouldn'y mix? I shall have to try this out
You could take the fish and the water out, then add liquid nitrogen, ultimate cooling .
haha you could but I suspect the fishtank isn't rated for that so it would freeze and crack spilling liquid nitrogen all over my feet, freezing me to the floor, preventing me from reaching my sky remote condeming me to watch golden girls over and over again
